- Description
The City Special Branch was formed at the time of the formation of Kozhikode city Police District on 01.06.1979. Before that one Inspector was holding charge of the erstwhile Kozhikode District Special Branch. There were 3 SIs to assist the inspector one each at Kozhikode City, Vadakara and Kalpatta. After the formation of the City Special Branch, one Inspector was holding charge of the City Special Branch. From 04.04.1983 onwards DySPs were holding charge of the City Special Branch. The Officer in charge of the Special branch was re-designated as Asst. Commissioner of Police. Verification of antecedents of persons, passport verification, police clearance certificate verification are done in District Special branch. Special Branch Control Room functions round the clock. Intelligence gathering is handled by this wing.
